Our Team

If you ask Paul how long he has been in businesses, he might smile and answer you in terms of the number of haircuts he has done in 3 decades! Paul started his journey in 1984 with a small, 3-chair salon. Crystal Lake (and McHenry County) has changed and grown by leaps and bounds since the early 80's and Paul has enjoyed growing and building his business in a tremendously supportive community. As Crystal Lake has expanded, Paul has moved, added staff, added services and welcomed many new clients. Always on the "cutting edge", Paul's salon was one of the first salons to offer day spa services in McHenry County!

Paul will tell you that he has assembled the best staff in the area - a group of experienced stylists, technicians and support staff with incredible talent, warmth, enthusiasm, and dedication for providing guests with an excellent experience. The family-friendly atmosphere of the salon has provided Paul and his staff with many rewarding experiences; sharing in clients' important life events and providing salon and spa services through many generations.

Our location? It's a bit unconventional however, much to our clients' delight, convenience overrides convention! We are centrally located near the Crystal Lake Post Office (tucked away on a less traveled side street) with easy access from Route 14, Main Street, Pingree Road, and the Pingree Metra Train Station. Our clients appreciate that they can escape-a-bit to a quiet, serene location and most important...guests do not have to hunt for a close parking spot during the cold winter months! We have convenient, dedicated parking right next to the salon.

Our Policies

Continuing Education
Our staff is dedicated to keeping up with the latest styles and trends in salon and spa services. We actively participate in national and regional classes that provide our staff with fresh perspective and skills. 

We make every effort to schedule your appointment at a convenient time. To avoid scheduling difficulties, we suggest that you schedule your next appointment after completion of your hair, nail, or spa service. 

Salon Etiquette
Cancellations should be made 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to allow our staff to accommodate other clients. We request 72 hour notification for cancellation of spa packages. (We do understand that emergencies may occur that do not allow 24/72 hour notification.)

Supervised children are welcome any time, or by appointment. Children under the age of 14 are not allowed in the spa area. 

Please help our staff to maintain their schedule by arriving a few minutes early for your appointment. New clients should arrive 10 minutes early so that we can enter your information into our database.

Our Clientele
We provide hair care services for men, women and children of all age ranges. Day spa services are reserved for clients over the age of 18. Written parental permission is required for day spa services for children between the ages of 15-18.

Service Guarantee
Your satisfaction is our highest priority. If you are not satisfied with your service, please notify us within 7 days to schedule another appointment.

Our entire staff is committed to your satisfaction and we are happy to accommodate your request for a different perspective by changing service providers.   

Salon and Day Spa Cancellation Policies
Services at Paul Hyland Salon and Day Spa are primarily "by appointment." Last minute cancellations and no-shows can have a great impact on our stylists and technicians. 

Regular Appointments - We request that you provide at least 24 hours notice when cancelling or rescheduling your appointment. 

Bridal, Prom, Special Occasion and Multiple Service Bookings- We require a 50% deposit to reserve appointments for Bridal Parties, Prom, Special Occasion or multiple services booked on the same day exceeding $150. (Multiple services are defined as 2 or more services for 1 guest or 2 or more guests in the same party receiving 1 or more services.) Deposits can be made with a credit card or gift card number and deposits will be applied to the service total upon completion of services. 

Deposits are not refundable unless cancellation or rescheduling is completed 4 days prior to the reserved appointment(s) for Bridal Parties, Prom, Special Occasion, or multiple services booked on the same day exceeding $150. 

Product Guarantee
We guarantee your satisfaction with all retail product purchases. We match competitors’ prices. (Products must be returned within 14 days of purchase.)

Payment Options
We prefer cash or check but accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover. Credit card purchases are limited to payment for services, retail purchases and gratuities.  

We accept chipped cards and Apple Pay.
